A long time ago I posted a link to the Mean Kitty Song from YouTube.  Replying to a tweet by Yasmine Galenorn on Twitter this evening had me go back to refresh my memory and enjoy the Mean kitty Song for myself again, and to my surprise I found out it’s been cleaned up into HD and stereo on YouTube.

So, here’s the updated version icon smile Mean Kitty Gets A Facelift

For science fiction movies, some names being involved stand out, and combined you just know you’re looking at a roller-coaster ride.

What do you think could result from a movie directed by James Cameron, co-starring Sigourney Weaver, scored by James Horner, sound laid down by Skywalker Sound, aliens and creatures designed by Stan Winston Studios, and choc-full of computer generated graphics courtesy of WETA of Lord of The Rings fame, Framestore, and ILM??

No need to imagine – just go watch ‘Avatar‘.

Once the storm has passed, the aftermath always sucks, and it’s no exception here.

Metro went into a well-planned (for once) set of procedures to deal with the effects of the snow, shutting down all above-ground stations while the snow was at its peak, yet managing to resume a relatively normal MetroRail and MetroBus service today (Monday).

MetroAccess was shut down for Sunday, and operated pretty much only in the daylight today (Monday).  They hope they can resume normal service tomorrow (Tuesday) but the chances are they’re going to be having troubles given the scope of the storm.

So it’s Sunday, the snows have stopped, and it’s time to begin digging out the ramp, front garden, and driveway.

The ramp is the dangerous part – we have to clear a spot, dump ice-melt where we’ve cleared, give it a few minutes, then move forwards.  Rise, repeat.

Thankfully we have some help with traction on the ramp, a friend several years ago laid down some wire mesh on one side that helps give our tires something to grip onto.

But it’s still a somewhat nervous experience, the rail on the left has stopped chairs from going over the side several times!

You might need it!

Pictures are taken at various times during the DC snowstorm in 2009.  As more pics are taken, this page will be updated.

We could only take a few pictures from the house – as you can tell, we’re pretty much stuck right now since no-one makes snowchains for powerchairs (Mark E. Smith where art thou???)

Strangely, the town’s Department of Public Works hasn’t taken the plows out to the street (at time of writing, saturday evening).  This is slightly perturbing.

Here we go again.

Mega snowstorm coming up from the south, they say it’ll turn into a Nor’easter, and they estimate we’ll get up to 24 inches of snow.

Now, the title for this post isn’t what I said when all this started heading our way – I do however get the feeling it’s a scream of anguish heard across the entire DC region a lot today.

Why?

Because DC grinds to an almighty halt the moment more than 3 snowflakes appear!

I bet Florida or Hawaii could handle snow better than DC.

Wreaths Across America took place this morning, at Arlington National Cemetery just outside DC, and at locations across the US, and overseas.

Wreaths Across America

This was the 18th year the Worchester Wreath Company has provided the wreaths, brought in by 18-wheelers all the way down from Maine, provided by themselves and through donations from many many others.

It’s hard to describe the event – it seems so simple, it went flawlessly, but there’s so much behind everything that words aren’t really adequate.

Bad Behavior has blocked 381 access attempts in the last 7 days.
