TSO Concert Coming To Town

December 9th sees us getting our annual Trans-Siberian Orchestra fix.

I’m kind of nervous this year. We got ourselves tickets on the floor – not just on the floor, but front row, center aisle tickets!!!

Normally Verizon Center puts all the cripples up on one side in a glass-walled enclosure that can only be reached by a somewhat rickety lift beside the stairs.

It’s not great, but the normal alternative is to be the far end of the arena to the stage, so unless you have binoculars all you’re going to see is the light show.

It’s not easy being a Supreme Court Justice, I imagine. As we’ve seen with the confirmation hearings in recent years, just getting the job demands you be laid bare before a public and will be judged not for your deeds, but for your ideology.

But once they’re confirmed and take up their place on that bench, they’re supposed to take on the tough questions they were grilled so hard to determine their views for.

That includes the ugly dark questions of racism and bias that have formed such a core part of the identity of the United States since before its inception.

Some disabilities have obvious effects, some don’t. In either case, it can be hard to explain to someone else just how disabilities can make you feel.

Enter one of *the* best articles on the subject, The Spoon Theory. I’ve been using this ever since I discovered it as a handout to give to people that gives them a better idea of just how draining disability *can* be.

It’s great reading, and handy to use! The rest of the site there’s not too shabby either

Rendered Robot Rock

I know, cheesy title, but no title really sums up what we’re discussing here.

This is, of course, for those of you who’ve been living in a cave for the past 8 years or so.

One of the things that always blows my mind is the Animusic videos. They’re really easy to explain – Take a piece of music (usually written by the creators of Animusic), a custom piece of software to listen to the notes of the music, and a kick ass set of computer rendered figures in a scene playing instruments, and you’ve got it.

Bring Light To A Dark Birthday

Tomorrow should be Sophie Lancaster’s 20th birthday.

Unfortunately she won’t be able to be there.

Two years ago, 2007, she and her boyfriend Robert were attacked by a group of youths in Lancashire.

Once he was down, she tried to protect him, and was beaten, kicked, stomped, in the head.

As her attackers left laughing bragging about their deed, Sophie and her boyfriend were left in a puddle of blood in the park. Sophie’s head injuries resulted in a coma.

Two days later, she died.

Their crime?

They were goths.

No, nothing else. Just that.

monsters WARNING: Fugitive Child Molester being bailed!!! Over 30 years ago, a 13 year old girl was plied with alcohol and drugs, then raped despite repeatedly saying “No”.

The perpetrator was caught, and pled guilty to unlawful sex with a minor, in exchange for leniency. When the judge reneged on the plea agreement, the child rapist fled the country to avoid answering for the crimes he freely admitted to, and remained a fugitive until captured in Switzerland.

At the end of the day, these are the only facts that matter in the case of confessed child molester Roman Polanski.
