So Sweet ...

A few days ago I had a brief Twitter conversation with @SueGrimshaw, and at one point she noted something along the lines of “we have the most fun” – we being editors and artists.  This coming on the heels of a post on @JodyHedlund’s blog, “Book Covers: Are They Important in the Digital Age?” got me thinking about this aspect of my work.

I asked myself “Do I have fun doing cover art?”.  The answer came back to me as a “Yes!” – although admittedly it took some thinking through to be certain.  To answer the question from Jody’s blog, I believe that cover art is important, perhaps even moreso in the digital age than the old times of just physical books.

I’m not exactly a fan of NASCAR, but I do watch it on occasion.

Last year I came to a startling realization.

Every time I looked at the screen, the commentators would be talking about Dale Earnhardt Jr, or Jeff Gordon, or Jimmy Johnson, or the rest – but out of the corner of the screen, every time, one car kept showing up that hardly was being mentioned.

Every time.

As I’ve mentioned before, I’m an advocate for accessible public transport in the Metropolitan Washington DC area (or in general, if you consider my support for those fighting for accessible transport in the UK recently too).

I just realized that I’ve whilst advocating for that, I’ve kind of assumed that the destination I use transit to reach will be accessible to begin with.

Thinking back on it, I don’t think it was a bad assumption to make in the DC area, really – I haven’t encountered a place I wanted to visit that barred me from doing so because of my wheels in many years now, the nation’s Capital doesn’t seem inclined to turn away perfectly good visitors and customers simply because of their mode of locomotion (for the most part).

Yes, it’s Valentine’s Day, and yes, my husband surprised me with gifts and flowers waiting on my computer desk when I awoke.  But that’s not what makes this day stand out compared to the others.February 14th 2012 – a very special day for me now.

No, today is an extra special event because it’s also the day I got to attend my very first NASA Tweetup, right here at none other than NASA‘s Headquarters in Washington DC!

Bad Behavior has blocked 330 access attempts in the last 7 days.
