Dishonour

I’m not sure which is the more enraging right now.

That a hotel seems to have a company policy to refuse accommodation for any service member in the UK.

Or that the (parent?) company has the gall to call itself “American Amusements” with such a policy in place.

What

The

Fuck?

Such a policy sure as hell isn’t “American” (unless you count certain unmentionable crazies who qualify as “American” solely on the fact it’s their citizenship, not their philosophy).

From “American Amusement”’s website:

American Amusements Ltd is one of the UK’s fastest growing and most successful Leisure Company’s.

Bad Taste

It seems del.icio.us is having a minor problem with its auto-post function.

In theory, as I wander the web, I can add links of interest to my del.icio.us account, and once a day del.icio.us posts my latest links collation into this blog.

In theory.

It looks like it’s borked - I’m not the only one having trouble.

So, I’ll put my latest finds to date in this post manually, until I can figure out a way to get around the problem.

Got to love computers, dontcha?

Specialists

As bad as the NHS in the UK can be, there are times when you get to hear about some damned good specialists.

In this case, the BBC News website reports on a 15-year old from Pontefract.

Tom Lemm fought cancer for three years, but a tumor in the upper part of his left arm meant surgeons were faced with having to amputate the entire arm, at the shoulder joint. Normally, amputating a limb at the joint (shoulder/hips) means the patient can’t use an artificial limb - there’s no stump left to attach one to.

Disturbing Equilibrium?

How many of you have seen the excellent movie “Equilibrium”?

Christian Bale, Sean Bean, Sean Pertwee … With talent like that, it’s easy to just get lost in the movie and ignore the plot.

Well, it is for me. But I digress.

Back to the plot of this entry - Do you remember how things were “Rated EC10 for emotional content”, banned, and burned, in the movie?

Now consider the idea of “age banding” in the UK.

The premise is simple - publishers want to start tagging the covers of children’s books with “age recommendations”.

Ahh Diddums

Oh dear, it seems someone has stolenChief Zee“’s tomahawk.

My heart goes out to the dear gent … OK, no, that would be a lie - it doesn’t.

The guy still seems totally incapable of understanding just how downright offensive and racist his antics are considered by many.

I guess it can only be a total ignorance of the issues he ends up being a caricature of that he thinks it must be a “prank”. It doesn’t seem to even remotely cross his mind, given his remarks, that anyone might just have taken his tomahawk because of how racist his portrayal of NDNs is.

The Latest Trend In Airline Cutbacks

Once upon a time, I thought Ryanair took it to extremes when it came to “no frills” flying - but not even they have come up with this idea …

Both the BBC News and CNN.com websites report on the decision by regional airline Air Canada Jazz to remove life-vests from their planes, citing Canadian regulations that say they’re not needed when flying within 50 miles from land.

Apparently, Air Canada Jazz thinks seat cushions are sufficient flotation devices for their passengers’ safety over water.

Umm …

What

The

Standing For Those Who Stood For US

I was answering an email from the mother of the singer/songwriter for Hailing Star, when it occurred to me that people in the UK might not know what PGR does.

So it was off to YouTube to find some videos.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a Private or a General - if the family asks, as many of us as are able will turn up to show respect and our thanks.

Operation Braveheart

[Edit: August 24th @ 0923] The site seems to be back up, my guess is DNS decided to bork for a while.

I noticed Operation Braveheart’s website is down. I’m not sure why, but if it’s a technical problem and anyone reading this (Hailing Star band members?) has a way of contacting Mr Godfrey, I’d appreciate it if they could pass this on to him and let him know that I’d be honoured to offer hosting for his site.

He can email me at moonwolf@moonwolfs-lair.com

The Difference Between A Soldier And A Warrior

We’re at the BAIC powwow this weekend, and honoured to get to listen to the music of Nammy-award winner Arvil Bird.

One of the things he mentioned this weekend is his take on the difference between a soldier and a warrior - a soldier serves and follows orders, but a warrior serves and follows his/her heart to do the right thing.

I love powwows, you always get a fresh perspective on things!

Stunned Amazement

Almost everything coming out of the UK about veterans of late has been bad - the state of equipment for the British armed forces, the attitudes of the civilians.

Especially the attitudes of the civilians.

So it hit me right in the gut to read on the BBC’s news site about Hailing Star.

They’re a teenage metal band in Devon, from the same town as a hero who fell in 2007, Rifleman Daniel Coffey, 2nd Btn The Rifles.

This group of teenagers (their lead singer is only 15) have written a song, “Lost Heroes” in memory of Rifleman Coffey, and other heroes who have fallen.
