The second one is a little more … risque than usual, a portrait of one of Romance Author @OliviaBrynn’s protagonists in her latest short story, “Ripped”.  This one was fun, and I’m happy to have provided a visualization of Mario that does him justice!

Yes, it’s Valentine’s Day, and yes, my husband surprised me with gifts and flowers waiting on my computer desk when I awoke.  But that’s not what makes this day stand out compared to the others.February 14th 2012 – a very special day for me now.

No, today is an extra special event because it’s also the day I got to attend my very first NASA Tweetup, right here at none other than NASA‘s Headquarters in Washington DC!

PEPCO Contractors nicer human beings than PEPCO Operations?

Yesterday I posted a picture over on YFrog of the PEPCO (@PepcoConnect) contractors at the end of our block, obstructing the road while they rig up new ultra-heavy power lines in the area where the proposed Purple line will run (which will, incidentally, cut our street in half when it’s finished).

At the time, it looked like things were going to turn into a huge mess as a result of the work.  We’d been put on notice that power would be killed to several blocks during the evolution (which makes sense, they wouldn’t want to be playing with squiggly amps on that scale).  Their original time frame was going to be 10am to 2pm, weather permitting.

Tron: A sad legacy

Let me start off by explaining a few things.

I was a kid when Tron, the original movie, was released – and it blew my young mind.  In some ways, the movie helped me to get into computing because it showed from a technical standpoint how computers could be used to create.  Ever since then, the look and feel of the movie has been an influence on both my cyberpunk/future related artwork, as well as my visualization of the neural Interfaces of the Legion Universe novels and stories.

Pictures are taken at various times during the DC snowstorm in 2009.  As more pics are taken, this page will be updated.

We could only take a few pictures from the house – as you can tell, we’re pretty much stuck right now since no-one makes snowchains for powerchairs (Mark E. Smith where art thou???)

Strangely, the town’s Department of Public Works hasn’t taken the plows out to the street (at time of writing, saturday evening).  This is slightly perturbing.
